Colapesce
Colapesce
The legend.
It's the tale of a young Sicilian, renowned for his aquatic prowess, so much so that he was summoned by King Frederick II of Swabia, who sought insight into the foundations of Sicily.
Colapesce dove into the sea and informed the king that one of the three pillars supporting Sicily was on the verge of collapse. Hearing these words, the king was moved to tears and implored him to undertake something to rescue the island. Thus, the young man descended to the depths of the sea, never to resurface. As the king and queen awaited him in vain on the shore, they heard his voice emanating from the depths, 'Your Majesty, I am here at the bottom of the sea, but I can no longer return.'
This spectacular interpretation of the legend was born from the hands of artist Gloria Di Modica, painstakingly handcrafted in every phase. Its purpose is to pay homage to popular traditions, and this artwork clearly embodies the essence of the Mediterranean.
Crafted from white clay and adorned with glossy glazes, it mirrors the hues of the sea, transitioning from crystalline azure to deep green, enriched by a profusion of orange, yellow, red, blue, and other tones, all enhanced by the sheen of high-quality glazes.
This is an unparalleled and unrepeatable masterpiece.
